This is one of the few paintings where I put gold leaf on a neutral palette, I thought that the combination would inspire peace and tranquility and the addition of the great white egrets add to that atmosphere as they are so graceful and elegant. These birds are a symbol of purity, clarity and simplicity. I like putting birds in my paintings, they also represent freedom, especially in flight.
