80cm x 66cm Framed
I am so inspired by swans, their social structures and how they work together while all the time appearing so graceful. In ancient Ireland, they symbolised light and purity and were thought to connect us to the Otherworld of gods and goddesses, they also symbolise love because they mate for life. In this painting I have combined the idea of the swans and the otherworldly with a portal which cuts through the painting in genuine gold leaf, creating a mysterious opening. I like to use genuine gold because it has mystical quality as well as echoing the art-historical tradition of using gold to represent the divine, highlighting the sanctity of nature and turning the subject of nature into the divine subject. Framed in a custom made white painted floater frame.
