Mixed media including genuine 23 ¾ carat gold leaf on canvas
40cm x 30cm
Hawthorne trees grow wildly and abundantly where I live in the West of Ireland. I love the way they look in winter without their leaves because you can see their beautiful gnarled branches and yet they have these vibrant red berries, which are an important food source for wild life in the colder months, especially birds. Hawthornes are deeply rooted in Celtic mythology, seen as fairy trees or gateways to the otherworld. They symbolise love, protection and fertility.
