I am often asked if the birds in my paintings are geese or swans & I always say that they can be either, I like people to have their own personal interpretation of paintings. However in this painting they are very definitely swans. This painting is called “New Dawn” even though the swans are flying by the moon because the moon is out in the morning for about 3 weeks after a full moon during the waning crescent, at this time the waning moon is considered a “wise” moon because it has been through all the previous cycles, and “New Dawn” also refers to wisdom because it is about new beginnings after many other phases in life that have been tried. Swans are a beautiful symbol of love & cooperation for me, we can’t really do it on out own.
